Southampton accountants’ ‘Mid Life Crisis’ rocks Mayor’s Ball
Southampton accountants Peter Whalley of James Cowper and Kim Hayward of BDO together with fellow band members – collectively known as Mid Life Crisis – rocked the Mayor of Southampton’s Charity Ball at the Guildhall on 28 January, raising more than £6,000 in the process.
Mid Life Crisis performed a 90 minute set of cover versions of tracks by artists including the Beatles, Eric Clapton, the Kinks, the Proclaimers, the New Radicals, The Rolling Stones Roy Orbison and Wilson Pickett. The Ball raised £6,000 for Fairbridge, a national charity supporting young people aged 13-25 to develop the confidence, motivation and skills they need to turn their lives around, and Age Concern.
Peter Whalley said: “Throughout the week James Cowper and BDO compete in the marketplace for work; however at the Mayor’s charity ball it could be said that we were ‘working in harmony’ and to great effect.”
Mid Life Crisis is a five piece band that also includes Southampton-based valuer Mark Proudley of Proudley Associates on guitar and vocals, Stewart Harris an accountant working in business on drums, and retired electronics engineer Cliff Turner on keyboards and vocals.
Cllr Elizabeth Mizon, Mayor of the City of Southampton, said: “I love the name, Mid Life Crisis, and we all enjoyed the music. The ball is a major fund raising event of the civic year we are delighted to be able to help two charities that do really important work in the City.
