James Cowper appointed administrators of amusement arcade operator

Partners Sue Staunton and Sandra Mundy of Southampton accountants and business advisers James Cowper have been appointed to liquidate Gamegrid Ltd, the Bournemouth-based operators of amusement arcades at 14 sites around the UK and France, including motorway service stations, airports and the Channel Tunnel.

Sue Staunton said: “Gamegrid, which employs 40 people, have a variety of games at a number of potentially lucrative sites, including the Channel Tunnel.  We have managed to sell three sites already at Gatwick Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport and Birmingham Airport and will be trying to find possible buyers for the other sites over the next week or so.”

The sites operated by Gamegrid Ltd are:

  • Newcastle International Airport
  • Glasgow Prestwick Airport
  • Eurotunnel
  • Bristol International Airport
  • Edinburgh Airport
  • Beaconsfield (M40)
  • Stop 24 service station, Folkstone (M20)
  • Blackburn and Darwen motorway service station (M65)
  • Derby motorway service station (A50)
  • Cullompton motorway service station (M5)

James Cowper has a strong track record in advising and turning around failing companies.  Over the past 12 months the firm has acted on the liquidation of Designer Rooms, the 10 store clothing chain; secured the sale of TEAM, a South Wales-based automotive components manufacturer, which should enable creditors to be paid in full; and advised on the purchase of a £25m recruitment business out of administration saving 2,000 jobs; and has advised a number of companies in difficult negotiations with HMRC in relation to crown debt arrears in a bid to avoid formal insolvency.
