Creating Innovative Solutions to Environmental Challenges
Science Oxford kick-started discussions about the range of events, initiatives and activities to be delivered as part of its new ‘Clean and Green’ series taking place in April, May and June 2010.
Over 30 people from organisations such as Oxford Catalysts, UKAEA, Oxford Brookes and Oxford Universities attended a ‘Clean and Green’ lunch last Friday. As well as having an opportunity to network, the attendees participated in discussions, facilitated by Science Oxford staff, to provide ideas and inspiration which will help structure this exciting new initiative.
‘The lunch provided a fantastic opportunity to hear more about the motivations, aspirations, challenges and successes of the organisations working in this exciting sector so that together we can shape activities which support environmental technology businesses and connect them with young people and the public’ said Amanda Nolte, Head of Research and Innovation at Science Oxford. ‘Our expertise in the fields of enterprise, education and public engagement makes us uniquely positioned to make innovative connections and create joined up activities which benefit Oxfordshire’s high-tech economy, schools and society.’
‘Science Oxford aims to support the growth and development of Oxfordshire’s high-tech economy by pioneering initiatives, researching and communicating information. We believe that a holistic approach is key to achieving this, and connections are vital in order to develop an effective innovation ecosystem. By working with three audiences - businesses, the general public and schools – we help to nurture and support the high-tech economy, to create a science-literate society which values innovation and creativity, and to connect young people with the challenge and excitement of science and enterprise’ stated Ian Griffin, Chief Executive at Science Oxford.
The ‘Clean and Green’ initiative is kindly sponsored by Blake Lapthorn and James Cowper. Amanda Nolte of Science Oxford said: ‘We are delighted to have the support of two major partners for this exciting initiative which will support and showcase the exciting environmental technologies being developed in Oxfordshire.’
Nicola McConville, a partner at Blake Lapthorn and head of the firm's Climate Change sector group said: “The firm is delighted to sponsor the 'Clean and Green' series, which is an exciting initiative that will support and showcase the environmental technologies being developed in Oxfordshire. We are looking forward to working with Science Oxford, together with James Cowper, on the various initiatives being brought forward and, as well as the external initiatives taking place throughout the series, the firm will also be involving its staff in some internal activities."
Sue Staunton, a partner and head of James Cowper’s technology team in Oxford said: ‘Clean and Green is an important initiative and we are delighted to be part of a programme designed to support the growth and development of this sector in Oxfordshire. James Cowper has a strong track record in acting for entrepreneurial and high growth technology firms across the Thames Valley on all aspects of raising finance, R&D tax credits, company structures and exit strategies.
