Training is undertaken with a leading training provider and consists of periods of block release to attend courses, with exams being spread over the 3-year training period. There are a series of computer-based exams, designed to test your technical knowledge, and these lead on to further exams which test your ability to apply this knowledge. You'll need to be prepared to study in your own time too, in order to make sure you get the most from your studies and, of course, to achieve exam success. Alongside this, you'll be developing your skills and knowledge by undertaking a wide variety of work in the office, which will cover a full range of business advisory and accounts work, to both reinforce and enhance your studies and help you achieve your goal of becoming a qualified accountant.

If you've already obtained your degree (or equivalent) or are about to do so, then this route may be the one you wish to pursue.
You may already have decided, as a result of your qualifications or personal interest, that a career in mainstream accounts and business advisory is not for you, but tax is. If so, you may wish to train as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA). To do this you'll first need to study as a Tax Technician (ATT) and then progress to CTA.
Training is undertaken with a leading training provider with periods of block/day release. The syllabus covers the various different areas of tax and also some accounting and law. Alongside this, you'll gain practical experience from the work you do in the office. As with any professional qualification, you'll also need to be prepared to study in your own time to maximise your learning. Exams are based on a modular structure and are sat in May or November each year.
Accounting Technician (AAT)/Certified Accounting Technician (CAT)
Our next intake of Accounting Technicians (AAT)/Certified Technicians (CCAT) is now closed.
If you have, or are expecting, good A level results which include maths, then this route will be just right for you. The full qualification is in 3 stages and can be achieved in 2 to 3 years, depending on your A level subjects. Not only is the AAT a professional qualification in its own right, it's also recognised as a level 4 NVQ.
Training is on a day release basis at a local training college, with exams being taken in June and December. This will be combined with on-the-job training, covering a wide range of business advisory and accounts work. You'll also need to be prepared to study in your own time, so you get the most out of your studies and, of course, pass your exams.
Once you’ve obtained your qualification there are opportunities to go on to study ACA - because you're already a qualified AAT/CAT, you receive some exam exemptions.
During your training there will be lots of opportunities, as you experience the wide range of business advisory and accounts work, for you to consider where you want your career to go. We'll discuss this with you throughout your training so that, together, we can help you to achieve your goals.
